Past Events

Below are details of some of the Redditch District Explorer Scout past events.

Winter Camp

Over the weekend of the 17-19th January, we organised the first District Explorer Scout event - a Winter activity camp. Click here to find out what went on.

District Night Hike

In February there was the Explorer District Night Hike.

It was COLD!

Two teams completed the course (some by car!) and we think they enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, the photos didn't come out too well. :-)

Malvern Challenge

In June, three cars went down to deepest Gloucestershire to attend the Malvern Challenge.

It was a fun filled weekend which started on the Friday night with The PARTY featuring some live singers, DJs and entertainment.

Saturday’s main event was the Malvern (well actually the Cotswold) Challenge - a 7 mile activity hike. We had three patrols who went around the checkpoints, which included an assault course, abseiling a rock face, laser shot guns, Moon Walk challenge, climbing wall competition, Fort Boyard and other traditional skill type checkpoints such as Map reading. Unfortunately we didn't win, but hey, there is always next year....

Early on Saturday evening there were a number of activities happening, such as the human table football (see photo). Unfortunately we weren't very good. No actually we were terrible and I blame it all on Cieron who was impressively bad at being the goalie!

Later in the evening there was more live entertainment, which actually didn't entertain the Explorers. They decided to hang out in the Cafe Marquee and have a disco instead.

On Sunday there was a Fayre with lots of events, such as a bouncy castle, gladiator games, fair rides, bucking bronco, crystal maze, car driving and many stalls and a craft section.

After the closing ceremony, it was time to pack-up and head for home. We'll be back....

Cycle Race Marshalling

In July, the Explorers helped out Birmingham Cycling Club with the marshalling of a 3 stage cycle race over 2 days.

The racing took place around Redditch with the Explorers directing traffic and trying not to get run down by the cyclists.

There was a bit of a shift system over the weekend which provided cover for the event, whilst letting the Explorers help out when they were available.

Water Day

The Water Activity day took place at Pike's Pool in August. The day involved making rafts, splashing around using Tractor Inner tubes and generally getting muddy!

Climbing Day

The District held a climbing day in August. Visit here for photos.

Kinver Camp

September saw the Summer weekend camp at Kinver. See here for photos.
